DIGITALOCEAN ACCOUNT GUIDE

How to enable 2FA on DigitalOcean

Add authenticator verification to a DigitalOcean account that signs in with email and password. If you sign in through Google or GitHub, manage two-factor protection at that identity provider instead.

Choose the authenticator method

  1. Open your profile menu in the DigitalOcean control panel and select My Account.
  2. Under two-factor authentication, choose Set up 2FA.
  3. Choose the authenticator-app method.

Add DigitalOcean to Sign In

You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.

  1. With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
  2. Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
  3. Enter the current code on DigitalOcean and complete its confirmation. Choose backup codes as your backup method.

DigitalOcean provides Try this instead for manual setup if you cannot scan. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to DigitalOcean and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.

Download backup codes

Save the backup-code file somewhere secure outside your phone. DigitalOcean shows the codes once. If you generate a new set, the previous set stops working.

When your phone is unavailable, use a saved backup code on the sign-in screen. If you cannot use your configured backup, follow DigitalOcean’s official lost-device recovery instructions.

If a code does not work

Make sure the DigitalOcean entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.

Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
