NOTION ACCOUNT GUIDE

How to enable 2FA on Notion

Notion lets you protect a password-based account with authenticator codes. If your organization requires single sign-on, its sign-in provider controls your authentication instead.

Add an authenticator method

Your Notion account needs a password before you can enable two-step verification.

  1. Open Settings, then select your name.
  2. Under Account security, choose Add verification method beside two-step verification.
  3. Select Code from authenticator.

Add Notion to Sign In

You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.

  1. With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
  2. Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
  3. Give the method a name in Notion when prompted, enter the current code from Sign In, and finish setup.

If the service offers a setup key, you can enter it manually. Otherwise, use a second screen for the QR code. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to Notion and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.

Save the backup codes

Notion provides six single-use backup codes when you first enable two-step verification. Store them securely somewhere you can access without your phone.

At sign-in, choose Try another method → Use backup code if your authenticator is unavailable. Use a code you have not used before.

Add another available method

Notion supports more than one authenticator and may offer text messages, depending on your region. Review your verification methods before replacing a phone, and confirm the replacement works before removing an existing method.

If a code does not work

Make sure the Notion entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.

Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
