Check eligibility and open Signal Login
Signal documents this feature for its phone-numberless Android beta, version 8.28 or later. Check the linked beta instructions for current availability before starting.
- Open Signal on your Android device.
- Open Settings by tapping your avatar.
- Open Signal Login and choose the option to add an authenticator factor.
Add Signal Login to Sign In
Use Sign In, our authenticator app, for codes on your iPhone.
- If the service displays an enrollment QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
- If it offers a setup key instead, choose Add → Enter Setup Key. Label Service as Signal Login and Account with your account name, then paste the secret into Key.
- Review the entry and tap Add Account.
- Return to Signal on Android, enter the current six-digit code from Sign In, and complete the confirmation.
Keep any setup key private. Display the enrollment on your Android device while adding it to Sign In on your iPhone.
Keep a second way to verify
Signal Login also supports passkeys. Add another available factor before you lose your authenticator. Keep your Account ID and Recovery Key safe: these are separate from the authenticator setup secret.
Signal does not provide recovery codes for these second factors. If you lose access, you need an enrolled factor to complete recovery; Signal Support cannot restore your second-factor configuration.
If a code does not work
Make sure the Signal Login entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.
Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
