Enable Plex two-factor authentication
- Sign in to Plex and open your Account page.
- Open Two-Factor Authentication → Enable.
- Confirm your Plex password to display the QR code and text setup secret.
Add Plex to Sign In
You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.
- With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
- Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
- Enter the current six-digit code in Plex’s setup flow, save the recovery codes, and finish enrollment.
Plex supplies a text code for manual setup. Use it if Sign In is on the same iPhone. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to Plex and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.
Save the recovery codes
Plex provides ten single-use recovery codes. Keep a secure copy outside your phone. A new set replaces the earlier set, so update your saved copy after generating replacements.
If your authenticator is unavailable
Use an unused recovery code. If you also lost those codes, choose Verify another way on Plex’s verification screen and follow its email-recovery prompts.
Other sign-in paths
Google or Apple sign-in uses that provider’s security rather than Plex’s own second-factor check. Protect the provider account separately.
Switching between Plex Home members does not trigger an extra 2FA prompt. Share a Plex Home only with people you trust with that access. Plex does not provide SMS codes.
If a code does not work
Make sure the Plex entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.
Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
