Open Square’s sign-in settings
- Sign in to Square Dashboard.
- Open Settings → Account & Settings → Personal information → Sign in and security.
- Under Two-step verification, choose Enable → Use another method.
- Select Authentication app → Next.
Add Square to Sign In
You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.
- With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
- Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
- Select Next in Square Dashboard, enter the current code, and choose Verify.
Square provides Can’t scan the QR code? to reveal a key for manual entry. Use this when setting up on the same iPhone. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to Square and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.
Add a fallback method
Square supports text messages and voice calls as alternatives. After the first method is active, review Manage two-step verification and add a backup phone number if useful.
Square allows one authenticator-app enrollment at a time. Its help does not describe printable backup codes; prepare another supported method before changing phones.
If you cannot get a code
Try another verification method already registered on your account. If you cannot access a usable method, contact Square Support through its official website for phone assistance.
If a code does not work
Make sure the Square entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.
Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
