Edit Betterment two-factor authentication
- Sign in in a browser and open Settings → Security.
- Choose Edit under Two-Factor Authentication.
- Complete the text-message verification, or choose the offered alternative if you cannot receive it.
- Under Authenticator App, select Set up or Edit.
Add Betterment to Sign In
Use Sign In, our authenticator app to generate codes on your iPhone.
- Display the enrollment QR code on another screen.
- In Sign In, tap Add → Scan QR Code, scan it, review the details, then tap Add Account.
- When codes appear in Sign In, click Next in Betterment. Enter the current code to verify the connection.
Keep the QR code private. If you are setting up on one iPhone and no manual setup option is displayed, open the enrollment page on a second screen.
Before changing phones
Keep access to your current device until the replacement works. Betterment’s public setup instructions do not document a printable set of backup codes for this method.
If your phone is lost and you cannot authenticate, use Betterment’s official lost-phone help to contact support by phone. It can help you set up verification on your replacement device.
SMS and phone calls
Betterment also offers verification by text message or phone call. Once you have selected the authenticator method, sign-in requests a code from that app. Do not assume another method will automatically be available during a lockout.
If a code does not work
Make sure the Betterment entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.
Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
