Choose authenticator verification
- On eBay’s website, open your name menu and choose Account settings.
- Select Sign in and security.
- Choose Edit beside 2 Step Verification, then Authenticator App.
Add eBay to Sign In
You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.
- With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
- Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
- Enter the current six-digit code on eBay to confirm enrollment. Check for its activation confirmation.
If the service offers a setup key, you can enter it manually. Otherwise, use a second screen for the QR code. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to eBay and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.
Prepare for access problems
Keep your account email and mobile number current. Review the recovery options offered during setup; do not assume eBay provides authenticator backup codes.
If you cannot complete verification, try an available alternative on the sign-in screen, then use eBay’s account-access help if necessary. Keep any remaining signed-in session while you resolve the problem.
Other sign-in methods
In the same security settings, eBay offers text-message verification. Its own app can also approve sign-ins. Passkeys are available under Sign-in and security → Passkeys.
Only use the option to remember a device on a device you control, never on a shared or public computer.
If a code does not work
Make sure the eBay entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.
Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
