Open Amazon’s verification settings
- Sign in to Amazon and open Account & Lists → Your Account → Login & security.
- Open the settings beside Two-Step Verification (2SV), then choose Get Started if you are enrolling for the first time.
- Select Authenticator App and keep the barcode setup page open.
Add Amazon to Sign In
We recommend Sign In, our authenticator app, for codes on iPhone. It generates them on your device.
- With Amazon’s barcode on another screen, tap Add → Scan QR Code in Sign In.
- Review the account and tap Add Account.
- Return to Amazon, enter the current six-digit code, and continue.
- Add a backup method when requested, complete its verification, and finish the remaining enrollment prompts. Confirm that 2SV is enabled.
On one iPhone, manual entry is possible if Amazon offers a setup key. Use Add → Enter Setup Key, label the Service Amazon and the Account with your email, paste the key into Key, then tap Add Account. Otherwise use a second screen for the barcode. Keep the key private.
Prepare another way to sign in
In your 2SV settings, look for Add new phone or Authenticator App under the enrolled methods. Keep a working backup such as a phone number offered by Amazon, and update it before losing access to an old number.
Text-message and voice-call codes depend on access to the registered number and can be delayed. Sign In’s generated codes do not require mobile reception. Avoid relying on every recovery option being on the same phone.
If your phone is unavailable
On the code screen, use the option for not receiving the code to try an enrolled backup method. If none is accessible, follow Amazon’s Two-Step Verification account recovery process. Amazon must verify your identity before changing the protection. Recovery is not guaranteed or immediate.
If a code is rejected
Check that the Amazon entry in Sign In matches the account you are signing into. Wait for the next code and enter it promptly. Check your iPhone’s automatic date and time settings if fresh codes keep failing.
For text-message delivery problems, check reception and the registered number, then try the alternate method offered on the code screen. Do not keep requesting codes in rapid succession.
