Open the right workspace’s account page
- Sign in to the workspace and open your Slack account settings.
- Beside Two-factor Authentication, choose Expand → Set Up Two-Factor Authentication.
- Enter your password and choose Use an app.
Add Slack to Sign In
You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.
- With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
- Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
- Enter the current six-digit code on Slack’s setup page and select Verify Code.
Slack offers manual entry of its setup secret. Use it for setup on the same iPhone, and label the account with both your workspace and email. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to Slack and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.
Save backup codes for each workspace
Slack provides single-use backup codes during enrollment; you can also find them on your Account page. Keep a secure copy outside your phone and note which workspace they belong to.
Recover a locked-out workspace account
Use an unused backup code. If that is unavailable, ask a Workspace Owner or Admin to help reset your two-factor authentication. Workspace Owners should contact the Workspace Primary Owner. Re-enroll after access is restored.
SMS and organization sign-in
SMS may be available, but workspace owners can require an authenticator instead. If your organization uses single sign-on, follow its sign-in provider’s instructions and security policy.
If a code does not work
Make sure the Slack entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.
Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
